SC 2.0

Its getting there. Working on top and internal mechanicals. The propane burner is removable-so I can still burn wood as an option.

KAUFMAN Center Test Run

The sc 2.0 is functional-sort of fully operational, but not complete...Porter Arneil hooked me up with Mags Harries and Lajos Heder-two of the sweetest and kindest artists-they threw down for the cart at their "Terpsichore" opening. Thanks all!

SC 2.0 in process

Here's a peek at the new cart in process. It will will feature a hand-sink, fresh water and waste water holding tanks, water pump and on-demand water heater. It will also have a propane burner system in contained in the fire-box. Above is an image of the ingredient and supply containers-they drop into the work surface for easy access.
I would prefer a wood-burning system, but I have not come up with a design that the KCMO health department will approve. But there is still an opportunity to get around this if an efficient and safe system is designed. This could be a possibility for future carts.
The frame work provides support for the exterior covering and also the many components that need to be fastened and secured on the interior. The support frame is attached to a utility trailer that has a tow hitch.

Thanks threewalls for promoting Smore's Grant Project

The Smores Grant Project has been included in the upcoming threewalls publication PHONEBOOK 3, a directory of independent art spaces, programming, and projects throughout the United States and a collection of essays written by the people who run them. PHONEBOOK 3 includes artist-run spaces, public programming, unconventional residencies, alternative schools, and community resources; all of the projects that form and support art ecologies across the nation, as well as historical documents marking their past. Phonebook 3 will be an essential guide for artists and arts administrators looking to connect with others in this ever-changing realm of independent artist-run culture, including everything from nonprofit and community institutions to flexible and self-organized art spaces. Featuring essays by Renny Pritikin, Susan Sakash, Faheem Majed, Chances Dances, Paul Durica, Dara Greenwald, Amy Franceschini, Jon Brumit and Sarah Wagner, PLAND, Andy Sturdevant, Sasha Dela, Robby Herbst and more.

PHONEBOOK 3 will be released at the Hand in Glove Conference in Chicago October 20-23rd, a national gathering for independent visual arts facilitators working at the crossroads of creative administration and studio practice. This conference is open to people engaged in the pragmatic realities and imaginative possibilities of organizing exhibitions, re-granting programs, publications, residencies, and a variety of other programming that challenges traditional formats for the production and reception of art at the grass-roots level. Join us for a national conversation on grassroots creative activity happening outside of traditional institutions and learn about innovative organizing models that could be useful to artists and organizers. Panel discussions will arts leaders across the country including Nato Thompson, AA Bronson, Martha Wilson, Joseph del Pesco, Courtney Fink, Daniel Tucker, Renny Pritik

KC Sharrows

Sharrows (share-arrows) are a good thing for KC! We need more. I wonder why we don't see more bright colors in regards to street marking? See article here:http://kcbike.info/2010/11/02/north-kansas-city-installing-metros-first-sharrows-today/

Austin, Texas creative food vending

Austin Street Food Culture

While in Austin over the holidays I saw many unique street trailers. Most were small mobile trailers parked in groups in lots with street access and high visibility. I’m impressed by the variety of creative food ideas, colorful design, and overall abundance of good, fast food options creative Austinites provide. What kind of creative entrepreneur is interested in a low-overhead business like these? What makes a community support a street food environment that is local, diverse and eclectic? How do we describe the quality of a feeling of originality in regards to local businesses? Are unique and local food vendors valuable to a community?

How would food vendors like these contribute to Kansas City?
